Loveland, Colorado has not only been home to Journey Homes Communities, but also to the Loveland Valentine Program. With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, the Sweetheart City is gearing up for a series of several special events related to the holiday.

Loveland has re-mailed valentines for nearly 70 years. Hundreds of thousands of people across the country and around the world mail valentine cards to Loveland, where volunteers carefully stamp them with a special cachet and postal cancellation before forwarding them onward to their recipients.

This year the Valentine Program is especially meaningful to Loveland’s residents, many of whom were affected by the historic floods of September 2013. The 2014 cachet was written by Dale Littlefield and reads

From the Sweetheart City
Scenic, Safe and Strong
Comes a flood of Valentine wishes
To you, where they belong.

This cachet will be hand stamped on more than 160,000 valentines, along with a special postmark.

If you’d like to take part in the program, pre-address and pre-stamp your valentine, enclose it in a larger first-class envelope, and mail it to

Postmaster – Attention Valentines
446 E. 29th Street
Loveland, CO 80538-9998

Once your card has been received, a volunteer will remove it from the larger envelope, stamp it with this year’s cachet and postmark, and re-mail it to the intended recipient.

Foreign-bound mail must be received in Loveland no later than February 4, and all U.S.-bound valentines must be received by February 7. Colorado-bound mail must be received by February 10, or residents have the option to drop off their valentines at any King Soopers or City Market before February 8.

The Loveland Chamber of Commerce has also partnered with local craft brewery Grimm Brothers Brewhouse to produce a special raspberry porter, which will be released only in Loveland on February 1. And several businesses have joined together to offer Valentine’s Day getaway packages that include a hotel stay, dinner for two, cupcakes, a gift bag, and a hosted tour of local breweries and distilleries, including tasters.
